Dear Fellow Aikidoka:
As you may know this year marks the 35th anniversary of Utada Kancho?s arrival in Philadelphia. From his first dojo in north Philadelphia, he has taught thousands of students and grown his school have grown into an international organization comprised of 21 affiliated dojos in 9 states, a program at Temple University and in 4 other countries.
In recognition of this notable occasion, The Aikido Association of North America, will be holding a weekend celebration October 10th and 11th of this year. Saturday we will be at the Kendrick Recreation Center and then the highlight of the weekend will be the program on Sunday, October 11th held at the Mandell Theatre of Drexel University. The program begins at 1 pm and will feature an exhibition/demonstrations by all students. It will truly be a unique event that I believe will capture the essence of Utada Kancho?s 35 years of work and further help promote the cause of Aikido.
As his students we have an important part to play in this. Naturally, if at all possible we need to be there for both days of the celebration and, if demonstrating, to practice as hard as possible to make sure our technique really shows forth the excellent instruction we have all received from Utada Kancho. But in order to make this occasion all that it should be we also need your financial support. Please consider sponsoring our 35th Anniversary Celebration. Any level of sponsorship will be helpful and will go a long way towards helping us continue to share Aikido with more and more students in this country and around the world.
