April: Hijishime Waza
Elbow lock techniques

In this technique, you hug uke’s arm and apply pressure to uke’s elbow in a direction perpendicular to uke’s arm. This technique can be applied from either a standing or kneeling position, and in response to many different attacks such as front strike, side strike, punching, or grabbing...etc.

Main points to study

1

Do not "wrap" your arm around uke’s arm when you are performing the hugging motion.

2

Your upper body must be straight in order to control uke’s elbow.

3

The distance between you and uke must be correct.
